One of the most powerful options of the Terrain Editor is the Altitude filtering.
Sometimes you need to create something special and unusual. Using the Altitude filter,
you can completely change the terrain's form. With a filtering technique, you
can get full control over your terrain. I will show you how you can create a plateau.
Launch Vue and create a new scene.
Choose an atmosphere you like and create a terrain.
In the Main camera view, double click the terrain to open the Terrain Editor.
Press the Filter Altitudes button
to load the Altitude Filtering window.
Right click the Altitudes filter box and select Load Filter.
You will get the Filter collection window.

Basically, the filter is a profile of the terrain.
Try to load some filters to see how it works.
If you create a random terrain and apply the Volcano filter from the Terrain Profiles collection,
all you need is a side view of your terrain in the Altitude Filtering window.
The terrain profile will resemble the filter profile.
Right click the Altitude filter box and select Reset filter.
Right click again and select Edit Filter.
In the Filter
Editor window you can create your own filter, for example the plateau
filter. Each filter can contain straight and/or curved lines.
You can modify
these lines with the key points.
We want to flatten the top of the terrain.
In the right top corner, find the key point and drag it
down a bit. Click on the graph and press the New Key Point button.
Drag the new key point as shown in the picture below.

Check the Smooth Option Filter
if you want to smoothen the slope. Rotate the key point a bit. Press OK
and enjoy your plateau. Be aware that you can see your terrain in real time
mode in the Altitude filter window.
In the Altitude Filtering window, press
the Preview button to see your terrain in the Terrain Editor window.
If you're satisfied with your terrain, right click the filter and select Save
filter.

In the Filter collection you can find the Wall  filter. With this filter,
you can create plateau, with a dip in the center.

If you want a bigger dip try the Wild dig filter.

Using Altitude filtering, you can create a wide variety of effects. Let's try
the Canyon filter from the Terrain Profiles collection.
This is what you can get with the Canyon filter.

Also, using the Altitude filtering option, you can invert your terrain. The inverting filter
does look different from the usual filter. The value of the filter is decreased
from 1 to 0.
For example, you can create a river basin or a mountain lake. For the river
basin, use the River bed filter from the Terrain Profiles collection.
