Open Vue and select White Back from the Others collections and create the Torus.
There are different ways to create a Torus :
The easiest one is to press Shift+R.
The second one consists of clicking the Objects menu, selecting Create and Torus.
The third way is to left click and hold your left mouse button on the Sphere icon in the left toolbar, and
when the rest of the primitives appear, select Torus
.
In the World Browser highlight the Torus and click on it once.
Rename your torus to link and hit the Enter button on your keyboard.

Resize and scale your torus to apply a suitable form. You can
modify the thickness of the torus. Just double click on the torus in the Main
camera view, and in the Torus Options window set the thickness you'd like.

Now its time to create a 'welding mark'.
But how do we create that?
Its simple - just create another torus! Resize the second torus to make it smaller
and place it just like on the picture below :

Well, lets apply a material to our link.
In the World Browser select your 'welding mark' torus and press Ctrl+M.
Go to the Metals collection and choose Pewter, press OK.
Select the 'Link' Torus, press Ctrl+M again and apply the Tinted Metal material.
In the World Browser select the 'Link' torus and the 'welding mark' torus (torus 2)
while pressing Ctrl, then click the Group Object button
.
In the Main camera view right click on the group and select Copy.
Right click again and select Paste.
In the World Browser select the second group and click once.
Rename the Second Group to Group2 and press Enter.
Highlight Group2, rotate it 90 degrees around the Y-axis.

We can create another type of chain link.
Make an extra torus and create a cube (Shift+U).
Squash the Torus to make it look like the link.
Scale and resize the cube and put it in the middle of the torus (see the
picture below):

In the World Browser press Ctrl while highlighting both the torus
and the cube.
Click the Group button
.
Now, let's save our chains for future use.
Is pretty easy. Select your chain (all of the links!), right click on it and select Save Object.
You will get a "Please select a file for your object" window, type "chain" in the File name
field and press OK.
The file will be saved as chain.vob in the Objects directory of Vue.
So, if you need to load your own chain just press the Object button
and find your chain thumbnail in the Personal collection.
Thats about all I have to tell you about chains.
But what about the gap?
Ok, let's create the gap.
We are going to use a Boolean operation.
We need a torus and cube.
Scale and resize the cube and put it into the torus like in the picture.

In the World Browser select your torus and cube, and then press
the Boolean Difference button
.
Try to render your scene and on the picture, you will see the gap.
