Foam is the key to realistic sea and ocean scenes. In this tutorial, I'll show how you can create foam using the existing materials.

Open Vue and choose the 'Wispy Winter' atmosphere from the 'Daytime' collection.
Create a sphere and place it anywhere in front of the main camera. We'll use the sphere as a pattern.
Press the 'Load material' button and apply the 'Default water' material to the sphere.
The procedure to edit the material is simple in Vue:
Right click the sphere in the 'Object properties' panel and select 'Edit material' to load the 'Material Editor'.

Right click the color pattern in the 'Color production' box and select the 'Load Color Map'.
From the 'Solid' collection, select 'White' and press OK.
Select the 'Bumps' tab. Right click the sphere in the 'Bump production' section and select the 'Reset function'.

Select the 'Highlights' tab.
Set the 'Highlight global intensity' to 100% and the 'Highlight global size' to 80%.

Select the 'Transparency' tab
Check the 'Variable transparency' option.
Right click the sphere in the 'Transparency production' section and select 'Load Function'.
Choose the 'Clumps' from the 'Spots' collection and then press OK.

Right click the sphere again and select 'Edit Function'. In the 'Scale' box, set the Y value and the Z value to 0,3. Press OK.

Select the 'Effects' tab.
Drag the 'Luminous' slider to 80%. Press OK.

Right click in the 'Object properties' window and select 'Save Material'.

Here is another example of foam you can achieve. It is a 'solid' one.

The materials properties depend on several parameters. They can look completely different in various environments. It is important to have full control of the material parameters. As you see, in the 'Material Editor' you can easily control your materials.
In the next part of this tutorial, I'll show you how to apply the foam material using a special technique.
