In this short tutorial, I will show you how to create something similar to a laser
beam. The little scene I created for this tutorial you can find at the
bottom of the page.
The laser beam contains two cylinders.
Create a cylinder
and make it very thin.
Make a copy of the cylinder and increase its diameter.
The larger cylinder will be surrounding the smaller one. See the picture.

Now, let's create a material for our laser.
Press the 'Load material'
button
and
select the 'Luminous Glow' material from the 'Glowing' collection.
Right click the pattern in the 'Object properties' window and select 'Edit
material' to load the 'Material Editor'.
In the 'Color production' box right click the yellow rectangle and select
'Load Color Map'.
From the 'Colorful collection' select the 'Default preview'
and press OK.
Apply this material to the first cylinder.
For the second cylinder, we need to edit the current material.
Open the
'Material Editor' and select the 'Effects' tab.
In the 'Glowing material' section, set the 'Intensity' and 'Radius' to
20%.

Select
the 'Transparency' tab
and set the 'Global Transparency' to 72%.
Press OK and apply this material to the second cylinder.
Create the explosion's elements from toruses and spheres.
Add a point
light to your laser cylinders by pressing the 'Point light' button.
My laser beam contains two point lights.
One of them at the bottom of
the beam and another one placed a little bit higher.
