One great advantage of the Terrain Editor in Vue is the possibility of editing existing terrains.
In the Terrain Editor, we can leave one area unaffected while working with another part of terrain.
In this tutorial, you will learn how to create a road in Vue.
You should have a painting program for some of the operations.

Open Vue, create a new scene, and choose any atmosphere you like.
Press the 'Terrain' button to create a terrain.
Double click the terrain to open the 'Terrain Editor'.
Press the 'Copy' button to copy an image of your terrain to the clipboard.
It is time to start your painting program.
Create a new file and set the height and width at 256 pixels.
Now, just paste the image by pressing Ctrl+v or Shift+Insert.
Paint a black curved line for a canyon. See the picture.

Save your image as 'map'.
Now we need to create another picture for the road.
Create a copy of the 'map' file (save as...).
Paint a smaller white line over the black one.
When you finish, fill with black everything except a white line. See the picture below.

Save your image as 'road'.
Switch back to Vue and in the 'Terrain Editor' press the 'Picture' button to load the 'Import Terrain Data' window.
Press the 'Load' button, browse to the 'map' picture, and press the 'Open' button.
Depending on what exactly you want, you can play a bit with the 'Mixing mode' parameters.
You can blend, add, subtract, minimize, maximize, and multiply.
We can use the 'Blend' mode, but drag a bit to the right the 'Proportions' slider.
Press OK.
Now we should work with a paint 'brush' in the 'Terrain Editor'.
Press the 'Effect' button in the brush mode section and select the 'Pebbles'.

Create little stones by pressing the left mouse button on the inside edges of terrain.
Refine your terrain using other effects if needed. Press OK.
Let's create a road. Press the 'Terrain in Editor' button.
Uncheck the 'Generate fractal terrain' and press OK.

In the 'Terrain Editor' window press the 'Picture' button and browse to the 'road' image. Press OK.

By dragging the 'Clip' slider, decrease the height of the road.
Place your 'road' and apply materials.
