Open Vue, create a new scene
and
select any atmosphere you like.
Press the Terrain in Editor  button.
In the New Terrain Options window, uncheck Generate fractal terrain and press
OK.

You should now see the Terrain Editor window.
Increase the terrain resolution
to 1024x1024 by pressing twice the Double terrain resolution button.
Click the Add Function button.
Right click the sphere and select the Load function.
From the Bumps collection select the Peels function and press OK.
In the Add function to Terrain window, right click on the sphere and select
Edit.
You should get another Function Added to Terrain window, and
now we can change the parameters of the function. Set the following parameters
(see picture below):
Amplitude: 1.000
Offset: -0.100
Origin: x=0.00 y=14.00 z=50.00

Leave the other settings as they are.
Note: You can save your function if you need. Press the save button.
You will be prompted for a name; name your function something like Ocean.
Press OK in both of the windows when you finish.
Highlight the raise button
and
try to "paint" waves on the terrain.

When you get a suitable result, go to the Effects  tab
and click two or three times on the Plateaus button.
Press OK.
If you are satisfied with the result, apply the water material to the terrain
and make a few copies of the terrain. Be ready for the big size of your scene.
It's a real whopper - 18 Meg!
In my scene I used 9 terrains that are placed like in the scheme below.
